Social Activities
Social Activities at Crinken are certainly not confined to the few events listed below. They take place in many ways and in numerous locations but are based on a common theme – genuine friendship and the acknowledgement of a faith that is shared. Whether it’s over a cup of tea or coffee in the Church Hall, a get-together in each other’s homes or sharing a sit-down meal at the annual new-year dinner, Crinken folk enjoy time spending time together and meeting new people.
Some of our regular activites include:
Young @ Heart
The Young@Heart members come from the group within Crinken who are approaching or who are already in their Golden Years. That may be in terms of age, but there is a youthful disposition very prevalent in their gatherings.
Run by Neville & Orla Wood, Geoff & Margaret Scargill, Noel & Jonie Griffin and Joyce Sparkes, this group meet for various events throughout the year. Whether it’s lunch after the morning service, a movie night in the hall or New Year celebration, these events are inevitably punctuated by hilarity, good humour and great food!
Everyone is welcome and NO upper OR lower age limits apply!!! Contact Orla for further information.
Crinken Bowls Club
If it’s Monday night, it must be bowls night!
Out go the chairs from the hall and in come the long, green mats. And at around 7.30 pm, in come the bowlers who pay an annual subscription of €20, plus €2 per night. Never mind if the bias catches you out and the bowls leave the mat, the high spot of the evening may turn out to be the tasty supper served around 9 o’clock. It’s then that friendships grow as the chat gets louder round the supper table. Some evenings, the numbers may be swelled because competition matches are arranged with other church clubs.
Bowls Club kicks-off in early September and ends with an outing and a lunch in May. One other thing you’ll need, however, if you decide bowling is your sport: a pair of soft shoes without heels or patterned soles so that no damage is done to those costly baize mats.
